With a phenomenal history, a committed faculty and staff, a Christ centered philosophy, a mission and vision for this generation, and the promises of God, Mount Carmel School has a bright future!

Mount Carmel School in Jackson, Kentucky was founded in 1925 as a boarding school to provide the youth of Eastern Kentucky the opportunities for a high school education.

At that time, most rural communities did not have a high school; for many, traveling to the nearest school daily was out of the question.

The founder, Miss Lela G. McConnell, firmly believed that the development of body, mind, and soul should be the heritage of every boy and girl.

Since its beginning, Mount Carmel School has been a work of faith. There is no guarantee of salary- instead, people are admonished to know God’s will and then to trust Him to provide the necessary needs. Sometimes help is provided to new staff by assisting them in their first year while they build a support base.

This basic philosophy has provided Mount Carmel with a staff that is deeply committed to the cause, solid in their Christian testimony, and concerned for the general welfare of the campus.

Over the years Mount Carmel has expanded its horizons by reaching out to young people across the United States and into other countries. More recently, Mount Carmel School has launched a remote campus, adding the opportunity for a Christian education in areas that do not have a Christian school.

In 2023 Mount Carmel School added a Preschool program providing a faith-based pre-school option to families in the Jackson, Kentucky region. With this expanded outreach and support base, Mount Carmel continues to build a reputation for excellent academics, a wholesome environment, a spiritual atmosphere, and a commitment to develop the whole person.

With a phenomenal history, a committed faculty and staff, a Christ centered philosophy, a mission and vision for this generation, and the promises of God, Mount Carmel has a bright future.
